Course Objectives

On this accelerated 3-day Certified Data Protection Officer course youll develop the skills to implement and manage a compliance framework aligned to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This course will also prepare you for a Data Protection Officer (DPO) job role.

Youll develop insight into the critical gap between the GDPR and current organisational processes - including privacy policies, procedures, working instructions, consent forms and data protection impact assessments - in order to adopt all new process compliant with the new regulation. Understanding and acting on this knowledge will help your organisation reduce the risk of prosecution in the event of a cyber breach. Breaches to EU regulation by multinationals can result in fines upwards of £20 million and could be as high as 4% of worldwide gross turnover.

These regulations establish a legal requirement that organisations with more than 200 staff employ a full-time Data Protection Officer.

On this course youll be prepared for and sit the PECB Certified Data Protection Officer Exam. This is covered by your Certification Guarantee.

Your exam meets the full requirements of the PECB Examination and Certification Programme (ECP). Youll be tested across the following competence domains, before applying for your certificate with PECB based on a range of experience and requirements detailed below:

  • Domain 1: Data Protection Concepts and Rights of the Data Subject
  • Domain 2: Data controllers, processors and the DPO
  • Domain 3: Data Protection Impact Assessment and Privacy Impact Assessment
  • Domain 4: Data Protection Measures and Approaches
  • Domain 5: Remedies, Liabilities and Penalties
  • Domain 6: Transfer of Personal Data to Third Parties

Exam details:

  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Format: Written exam

The exam is open book, which means that you can take any PECB issued material and notes made during the course into the exam.

Certification Requirements

Upon successful completion of the exam, you can apply for the credentials outlined in the table below. These are based on professional experience, information security and/or data protection experience and signing of the PECB Code of Ethics.
