Lab Topology

Lab 1: System Management Much of the Insight Control, Foundations of Management and Monitoring with Systems Insight Manager v7.2 course centers around the concepts of simplifying systems management. This lab is intended to introduce you to the idea of system management from a single-system perspective and to show what would be required to manually perform system management tasks without HP Systems Insight Manager 7.2 and Insight Software.

After completing this lab, you will be able to:
  • Update Version Control Repository Manager (VCRM) with ProLiant
  • Support Packs
  • Configure the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
  • Manage the VCRM repository

Lab 2: Configuring HP Insight Control In this lab, you will perform the basic HP Insight Control configuration required after installation. Within the HP Virtual Lab environment, HP Insight Control is preinstalled in the interest of time

After completing this lab, you should be able to:
  • Access HP Systems Insight Manager
  • Navigate the HP Systems Insight Manager homepage
  • Configure the HP Systems Insight Manager system links
  • Run the First Time Wizard
  • Create HP Systems Insight Manager users
  • Run an automatic discovery
  • Perform a manual discovery
  • Perform hardware status polling
  • View HP Systems Insight Manager events
  • Create custom toolboxes
  • Create authorizations
  • Access a Windows VCRM
  • Configure SSH on your client server
  • Modify automatic device discovery
  • Run data collection
  • View information on the device page and the System Management home page

Lab 3: Blade Integrated Manager
  • Use HP BladeSystem Integrated Manager
  • Navigate the HP Systems Insight Manager 7.2 logical hierarchy and use folders

Lab 4: Tasks, Collections, Tools and Events
  • Create and run tasks
  • Create personal folders and collections
  • View events
  • Configure automatic event handling

Lab 5: Reports and Audit Logs
  • Run available reports
  • Create new reports
  • Compare the snapshots of managed systems
  • Run Audit Log reports
  • Create new Audit Log configurations
  • Identify HP Systems Insight Manager changes written to Audit Log

Lab 6: Database and MIB management
  • Manage system types
  • Configure HP Systems Insight Manager to identify third-party devices using the graphical user interface (GUI)
  • Upload and register a Management Information Base (MIB) using the command line interface (CLI)
  • Configure Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) trap settings

Lab - Appendix A: Troubleshooting (if time permits)
  • Troubleshoot: The HP Systems Insight Manager Central Management Server (CMS), Security pop-ups, Unknown devices, Trap reception
  • Use MX commands to troubleshoot HP Systems Insight Manager and managed systems
  • Using the verbose mode to troubleshoot SSH connections

Lab - Appendix B: Installing HP Insight Control (if time permits) Proper installation of HP Insight Control installation is a critical step towards the successful use of HP Insight Control. After completing this lab you will be able to successfully verify the installation requirements and perform a basic installation of HP Insight Control

After completing this lab you should be able to:
  • Verify that the system configuration of the host that will become the Central Management Server meets the system requirements for installing HP Insight Control
  • Remediate any software or configuration issues that will negatively impact the installation
  • Install HP Insight Control using the default database
